Paper Description

Edit Paper Description Content

This paper provides students opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a scientist, the engagement and research undertaking in a science workplace, professional skill development, and facilitate the transition from an emerging undergraduate scientist to a graduate professional scientist. This paper will enable students to identify and articulate their skills sets, introduce graduate job seeking skills, and assist with developing appropriate documentation to support their graduate status. The paper will also provide opportunity for students to complete professional oral presentations, explore leadership skills and how to enact leadership, introduce the concepts of professional agency in the workplace, and provide continuous learning skills.

This paper should be taken as the final paper for the MSc(Tech).

This paper does not have scheduled contact times and is self paced. Any contact time is through one-to-one (or small groups) interactions with the teaching staff. If the workplace is overseas, this contact will be through email and video connection.

The paper is coded as X, meaning it has flexible start and end dates depending on the student needs and the nature of the workplace project.

It will be expected that the student will commence this paper near the end of their workplace project, the latter stages of the workplace activity is seen as part of this paper. The paper can be completed at the student's own pace. Common practice by past students has been to complete most of this paper as a 2-3 week block at the point the thesis is submitted.

There are five assignments with due dates individually negotiated depending on the starting time of the student.
